You’re probably thinking, “a review of a clear plastic bag…?? You must be kidding!” To look at one of these bags, you’d say, “Yep, that’s a zip-lock bag alright. I’ve got those in my kitchen.” It may look like the storage bags on your kitchen shelves, but it’s what’s behind these bags that make them different.

Reading through LOKSAK’s literature on these products, you get a sense of what these bags have been through to get the reputation they have. Extensive testing, design and re-design, extreme testimonials – this is what sets this reusable zip-lock bag far above the household storage bags found in your pantry.

If you go to LOKSAK’s website, you’ll see testimonial after testimonial from extreme users who put this product to extreme tests. So I’ll add mine as just an everyday user who isn’t constantly rushing headlong into extreme wet environments, but nonetheless is prepared in case a wet situation comes rushing my way (see Article – A Good Day Turns Bad … Ends Up Good).

ALOKSAK® is an element-proof storage bag that prevents leakage and preserves items against damage from water, air, dust and humidity. OPSAK makes all of the same claims, but in addition provides a barrier film that is 100% odor-proof.

Both ALOKSAK and OPSAK have an airtight seal when closed. Unlike typical 100% water/air tight products, our storage bags can be opened and resealed numerous times. ALOKSAK and OPSAK are made from FDA-approved film, thereby permitting safe food storage. The bags are fully recyclable.

Typical items stored in our ALOKSAK and OPSAK bags include wallets, medications, toiletries, passports, keyless entry devices, documents, silver, cell phones, maps, palm-pilots, books, film, batteries, global positioning devices, jewelry, clothing, cash, evidence, credit cards, tapes, compact disks, ice and food.

For food storage, remember that only the OPSAK is 100% odor-proof. Also, because of its barrier film, the OPSAK may be used to transport human waste or as a long-term biohazard bag.

The ALOKSAK bags are made of a durable polyethylene blended film and are considered disposable. The bags must be replaced after extended. They are plastic and can only take a certain amount of abuse. We recommend that you do not over stuff them thereby abusing the closure system. If you need something that can take extreme punishment we highly recommend Watershed Bags.

The OPSAK bags are made of a durable nylon, poly blend barrier film and are also disposable bags. It is important not to overstuff the OPSAK. The bags are odor barrier bags that can actually be left on the ground and animals can not smell anything. They are not metal containers or indestructible fabric bags.
